Android is to replace Symbian as the new smart phone overlord

Android is to replace Symbian as the new smart phone overlord: "

Google Android operating system claimed recently that it had already took up a quarter of the global smartphone market, and would continue to grow at a rate twice that of the competitor.

This operating system created a very brilliant result in 2010, the sales growth in the first three quarters is far beyond 1000%, and about 20 million Android devices were sold during the third quarter. In despite of the fragmentations due to the continuous updates of the software, Canalys analysts still predict that Android system will continue to grow after the company slowed down the updating frequency of it’s software.

In the third quarter of last year, a total of 80.9 million smartphones were sold worldwide. Symbian maintained its dominance by 37% market share in the global market, followed by Android, 25%. However, in the UK, the situation was not that good for Symbian, it dropped to only 20%, while Apple iOS keep its share by 30%, and BlackBerry 23%, Android 22.5%.

Android makes its success mainly by the support of key manufacturers and network, and at the same time there are both high and low equipments supplying its sale.
